Upcoming LOG will contain major problems

Disorganization in LOG office led to what could be one of McNeese's worst yearbooks to date

The 2003-04 McNeese annual, titled The Matrix, is expected to be completed Nov. 15, which will be the longest a yearbook has taken to complete in 10 years, according to adviser of the LOG Candace Townsend. Inexperience and miscommunication has contributed to the late yearbook, which has had problems with page layout, including missing images, difficulties with photographs and possible libel issues, according to Executive Editor of the 2004-05 LOG Melissa Walker and Townsend.

"Everything was kind of secretive. ... No one really knew what went on in the office. ... Job descriptions weren't revealed. ... Everything was pretty much disorganized," said Walker, who was a page designer on last year's staff. On top of this, deadlines were either not posted or not made obvious, which resulted in hectic, late nights for the staff, according to Walker.

Rohan Ferguson, whom the Editorial Advisory Board elected executive editor of the 2003-04 LOG, did not return as editor for the spring 2004 semester, for which "no one was really prepared," said Walker. In Ferguson's place, the EAB elected Ferguson's Assistant Editor Toye Mosley.

Because Rohan handled less of the technical matters, "we assumed that Mosley was getting the pages into the plant, editing things and being kind of behind the scenes," said Walker. "We had a lot of faith in her."

Except for Townsend, "No one knew she (Mosley) was a freshman," said Walker, and she had no collegiate experience prior to her college career, according to Walker, who, because of Mosley's inexperience, questions the judgment of the board that elected Mosley.

Late night production was common throughout the 2003-04 LOG; however, the pages, which were sent to the Taylor Publishing Plant, which prints the pages of the yearbook, would be returned because of errors or missing elements, according to Walker.

Among the problems presently being worked out are possible libel issues with a few stories, including Cowgirl Kickers' supposedly being paid to appear at the Moonlight Lounge and the alleged malpractice of a doctor (details of which are currently unavailable), according to Walker. Other problems included photographs' not printing correctly, missing images from layouts and duplicate page numbers, according to Townsend.
