Post Game Thoughts For Tough Loss Back to The Drawing Board

Texas State took advantage of some costly McNeese State turnovers to
post a 27-17 Southland Conference football victory here Saturday night.
It was the third straight win for the Bobcats over the Cowboys who not only opened league play in the game but was also playing before a Homecoming crowd of 11,640.
The Bobcats, now 2-4 on the season and 1-1 in the SLC, scored the game's
first two touchdowns and held a 14-3 lead after the opening quarter. They also led 17-3 at the end of the half and 24-10 at the end of three periods.
McNeese dropped to 2-4 on the year and to 0-1 in conference play. "Early in the game we had field position but then we had the turnovers,"
McNeese coach Matt Viator said. "I thought that we were ready to play but it just didn't happen." The Cowboys had five passes intercepted and lost a fumble. Quarterback Bradley George and backup Chase Wasson were the go-to guys for Texas State in the game. George connected on 12 of 23 passes for 201
yards and three touchdowns and Wasson caught two of those touchdown passes.
The two teamed for both of the Bobcats' scores in the first quarter, from 12 and 10 yards. Bradley also connected with Morris Crosby for a 20 yard scoring pass
while the other Texas State points came off the foot of Andrew Ireland who belted field goals of 18 and 34 yards.
Blake Bercegeay booted a 25 yard field goal for the Cowboys and quarterback Derrick Fourroux connected on touchdown tosses of 30 yards to Quinten Lawrence and four yards to Wesley Mangan.
McNeese held a 388-324 advantage in total offense. Fourroux hit on 16 of 27 passes for 186 yards but had three passes intercepted and he also ran for 32 yards. Jamie Leonard led the Cowboys in rushing with 72 yards on nine carries.
Backup quarterback Mark Fontenot and wide receiver Carlese Franklin threw the other McNeese interceptions. Texas State's Stan Zwinggi was the game's leading rusher with 90 yards on 23 trips. McNeese kick returner Steven Whitehead had an outstanding night, returning four punts for 105 yards and running back four kickoffs for 123 yards. He also rushed for four yards and caught two passes for 17 yards for an all-purpose offensive night of 249 yards.
