McNeese State University department of performing arts will be producing "How I Learned to Drive" by Paula Vogel February 7th-February 10th at 7:30pm and a matinee performance on February 11th at 2:00pm. The play, directed by Mr. Charles McNeely, deals with the issues a woman goes through after being sexually abused by her uncle all of her life.
The performance features theatre majors, minors, and students just interested in theatre. Theatre major Leslie Robinson plays "Lil' Bit" who is the woman who has been sexually abused and the central character of the play. When asked if it was hard for her to connect with the character, Robinson explains that, "The process of understanding the character made me learn how to fight my own demons. In many ways I connect…with her [Lil' Bit]. My mom's nickname for me is Lil' Bit."
Given the play's eccentric subject mater, says "[How I Learned to Drive] is definitely going to ruffle a few feathers. If it doesn't make you ask any questions, you should see it a second time. This play might touch some people as deeply as it has me.
