Liz Morvant doubles for Cowgirls' only run

McNeese State's softball team fell 7-1 to #9 LSU (22-3) here Wednesday night in a mid-week game. LSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Killian Roessner RBI single that scored Dee Dee Henderson.
McNeese tied the game one all in the third inning when Courtney Lemke singled and stole second. A two out RBI double by Liz Morvant scored Lemke from second for the Cowgirls' run. The hits by Lemke and Morvant were the only one's given up by LSU pitcher Emily Turner. Turner also collected 10 strikeouts in the complete game to improve to 8-2.
LSU took the lead for good with two runs in their bottom half of the inning on a Leslie Klein sacrifice fly that scored Jazz Jackson. Roessner singled in Henderson again for the go ahead run. The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth on a Vanessa Soto two run homer to take a 5-1 lead. A lead off solo home run by Kristen Hobbs in the sixth gave LSU a 6-1 lead and Klein collected her second RBI on another sacrifice fly that scored Andrea Smith for the games final run.
McNeese (9-19) will returned home this weekend to host Sam Houston State in a three game Southland Conference series. A 1 p.m. doubleheader was scheduled for Saturday with a single game a set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
