March 28-It's time to take those banners down because McNeese State University students have officially cast their ballots for 2007-2008 Student Government Association's executive officers, along with the much debated field house bill. At approximately 4:25 p.m. election results were delivered to the senate.
The ticket of Joshua "Kujo" Stewart, Mogan Verrette, and Daniel Lavergne received 397 votes with a lead of 61% over the competitors Marcus Stein, Ellen "Missy" Bloomfield and Casey Cooley who received 253 votes with 39% of the vote.
The field house bill passed with 412 yes votes, versus 242 no votes for a 63% to 37% majority. This bill authorizes a $10 fee increase starting Fall 2007 for students.
This is the first self-assessed student fee that has been passed in the history of McNeese State Univesrsity. Student money will pay for approximately one-third of the cost for the new fieldhouse. According to Field House Committee officials the project will cost close to $6.5 million dollars. Student contributions will total over $1.5 million when the life of the bill is finished.
According to Interim SGA Commissioner of Polling, Bryan Horton, eight percent of students turned out to cast their vote. This means out of the 7,689 students here at McNeese only 663 students voted.

Marcus Stein had this to say to the students of McNeese State University "I want to thank the 253 students who voted for I.C.E…Students will still have the 'Ideal Campus Environment' that our ticket stood for, we will still be active on campus and in the senate. I won even though I didn't win. I got a chance to tell students what we stand for. I will still be active on the Campus Development Committee and the TASC committee. " "I.C.E. will never melt."
The newly elected SGA president Joshua "Kujo" Stewart said he would like to thank students for accepting the challenge. I would like to thank the people who helped our campaign win."
As far as being senate chair Stein said he doesn't think he will do it again next year. When questioned as to why, he said "I have set the bar high, and it is time for someone else to have a chance to set the bar even higher…If I had to recommend someone it would be Senator Moore, Senator LeBouf, or maybe even co-author of the fieldhouse bill Senator Heard.
Coach Viator had this to say about the students decision to help fund the new fieldhouse "alsdkfj;sdj;lasdkjf;lasdjkf;lasdkfjl;asdjkfl;asdfjl;asdkfj;lasdkjf;asldkfjl;asdkfjasldkfjl;asdkfj;sladfjkl;asdkfjl;asdkfjl;sdkfj"

More students voted in favor of the field house bill then in favor for a SGA ticket. This is depressing. 397 votes to win the SGA office makes me sad. (Continued…)
