The O'Donnell, Yeates, and Brown ticket was disqualified from the 2009 Student
Government Association executive officer elections on Friday, March 27 for failure to
qualify and not meeting the given deadline for a grade appeal. Presidential Candidate
John O'Donnell failed to meet the qualifications required to run. The Election Board
ruled during qualifications earlier in the month that they would allow O'Donnell a grace
period to have his grade in question appealed before the election. Chief Justice Carrie
Mouhot informed O'Donnell that the final date for appeal was Thursday, March 26 by
2pm. O'Donnell failed to meet the deadline.
The Election Board met Friday, March 27, 2009 to discuss the qualification issue,
and ruled that the ticket would be removed from the ballot. The board decided that since
polls open at 10am on Monday, March 30, O'Donnell would not be able to appeal the
grade before students were able to cast their votes. If students were able to cast their
votes for an ineligible candidate, their vote would not be able to be counted. This would
be an injustice to the students in addition to a violation of candidate qualifications.
The Daigle, DuFour, and Warnken ticket and Rye, Pandey, and Chretien ticket
will appear on the ballot Monday, March 30 at 10am. If you have any questions
concerning the SGA officer elections or the disqualification of the O'Donnell, Yeates,
and Brown ticket, please contact the Student Government Association. The office is
located in Holbrook (Old Ranch), across from the International Student Association
office, or call (337) 475-5605.

These guys were the most qualified for the job. If Daigle is elected, I will be ashamed of my university.

While it pains me to see an even more limited ballot for this SGA election, I believe that the Election Board made the right call... eventually. The ticket should never have been allowed in the first place if the candidate didn't meet the criteria. (Continued…)

I agree that the candidate should never have been allowed to run in the first place, but that is irrelevant. The Election Board agreed to the conditional certification, pending the grade appeal. (Continued…)
