In their last two appearances against the Southern University Lady Jaguars, the McNeese Cowgirls have done an excellent job pitching and capitalizing on mistakes by the Lady Jags. The Cowgirls played the Lady Jags twice in a one-week span, and both were non-conference victories.
The Cowgirls first squared off against the Lady Jaguars on March 12 at Cowgirl Diamond. The Cowgirls started off hot by scoring two runs in the first inning. Lindsey Langner scored the first off of the first of three Lady Jaguar errors, and the second run was a ground out by Molly Guidry that drove in Claire Terracina.
In the third inning, Molly Guidry scored off of an error committed by the Lady Jags after she hit a single. In the fourth inning, the Cowgirls added two more runs when Terracina drove in Liz Morvant from second base and then scored off of a Dani Price single. The Lady Jags were held scoreless until the final inning when they scored two points to make it a 5-2 victory for the Cowgirls. Bethany Stefinsky received her eighth win of the season as she pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts.
After being swept in three straight games by conference rival Stephen F. Austin, the Cowgirls traveled on March 17 to Baton Rouge for their second game against the Lady Jaguars. Guidry led the Cowgirls at the plate by going three for four with three RBI's and one run. Her first two RBI's came in the first and third innings to give the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Jags scored their only run of the contest in the fourth inning off of a solo homerun by Victoria Stewart. The Cowgirls answered with a three-run fifth inning, led by a two RBI single from Holly Long and an RBI single by Claire Terracina. Guidry sealed the deal in the sixth inning when she scored Liz Morvant with her third RBI, making the final score 6-1.
Pitcher Bethany Stefinsky had another really strong showing as she improved her record to 9-10. She pitched a one-hitter through four innings, facing 14 batters and striking out six of them. This victory lifted the Cowgirls to 14-18 overall record; they are 8-4 in the Southland Conference.
