Frequently, there are stories in the news about acts of heroism. They may be about a firefighter who rescues someone from burning flames. Or a police officer, risking their life for another. Maybe someone dives into a pool and saves a child from drowning. Recently a pilot executed an emergency landing on the Hudson River in order to save the lives of the many passengers on board his aircraft.

During most of life's moments, someone somewhere is coming to the aid of another. Nurses, doctors, soldiers, and a host of people are everyday heroes. They bring real-life help through acts of kindness, bravery, and selflessness.

You see, heroes are often ordinary men and women who see the importance of helping a hurting world. You may be one yourself and don't know it.

Jesus was a hero to the lost, sick, and helpless. He used the tool of serving and became a hero to those He rescued.

Mark 10:45 says, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as ransom for many."

If we desire to be like Jesus, then serving others is where it starts. It can be as simple as help serve a meal to the homeless during the holidays, or mowing the lawn for your elderly neighbor down the street. It doesn't matter how big or how small, it's about serving!

Putting others above self is the key to becoming a servant. Instead of holding your hand out ready to take, extend a hand that's ready to help. You're a hero to someone you serve and you represent Jesus best when you do.

When we change our perspective it changes the world's perspective of Christ. The best way to tell a lost soul about the love of Christ, is to love them like Christ does. Be Jesus' hands, feet, arms, and ears in someone's life. There's plenty of opportunities for all of us when this is our goal.
