Senior running back Brent Grimes, a three year starter, has rushed for 836 yards and 14 touchdowns through nine games and has also caught 22 passes for 215 yards and a score. He has both the speed to break a big play and the power to punch it in on the goal line and may be a problem for the Cowboys.
The biggest difference for the Bears this season is the loss of star quarterback Nathan Brown, who is the only collegiate quarterback in the state of Arkansas to ever throw more than 10,000 yards and 100 touchdowns in a career. The all-American threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 71 yards and a score against the Cowboys last season.
This year at quarterback the Bears have senior Robbie Park, who has thrown for 1,922 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is not the dual threat that Brown was, , as seen in his 358-yard performance against Glenville State.
The receiving corps also lost some playmakers after the 2008 season. Tight end Marquez Branson now plays for the Denver Broncos and receiver Eric Ware has graduated. This year they have depended primarily on seniors James Lovett and Preston Echols. Lovett has 34 receptions for 429 yards and three touchdowns and Echols has 32 receptions for 413 yards and two touchdowns.
The McNeese offense will undoubtedly be able to score against their defense, but stopping the Bears offensive attack could pose a bit of a problem. My prediction for this game is a 34-24 win for the Cowboys.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. sharp in Cowboy Stadium.
